Popcorn has a delicate, yet complex flavor that makes it the perfect pairing for many types of drinks. From hot chocolate drink to wine, there are countless options. We’ve singled out different drinks that pair well with popcorn, both at home and in theaters.
Hot Chocolate
Who doesn’t love a good cup of hot chocolate? There are many different brands and flavors out there, but if you’re looking for a classic taste go with Swiss Miss.
But, if you want to kick it up a notch, try mixing in some peppermint schnapps for an extra touch of minty flavor that goes great with the chocolate taste.
Tea
If hot chocolate is not your thing and milk is not an option, then tea is a great alternative. There are so many different kinds of tea out there, and most of them pair well with salted popcorn. Just watch your sugar levels because some teas can be excessively sweet if you add too much sugar.
Milk
A classic drink that goes great with popcorn is milk. It’s easy to make at home by adding some powdered milk into a cup and then pouring in some hot water from the kettle. If you don’t have any powdered milk on hand, a splash of regular milk is fine too.
Spiced Buttered Rum
Rum might not be the first thing you think of when pairing drinks with popcorn, but it does go surprisingly well. The spiced butter in the rum goes well with cheddar, white chocolate, and salted popcorn.
Wine
If you’re going for a classy night-in with friends, instead of ordering take out, why not make a big bowl of popcorn and open up a bottle of wine? It’s a great way to switch it up and add some extra fun to your movie night.
Just make sure you don’t go overboard and drink too much wine, otherwise your play-watching experience will end up being less than stellar.
Tequila
Great for parties, but perhaps not the best drink to have on your own! If you are going to live life dangerously and share a round with friends, make sure you choose something strong enough to mask the taste of the alcohol – otherwise it’ll ruin your popcorn.
Apple Cider
This goes especially well with caramel, kettle corn, or any other sweet popcorn flavor. In fact the flavors pair so well together that you could drink apple cider simply by pouring it into your leftover popcorn bag!
Coffee
And finally, the perfect drink to have with your popcorn: coffee. Pairing coffee with popcorn is a great way to get more bang for your buck. It’s all about the taste, though, so try not to add too much sugar or cream or you’ll ruin the whole experience.
