We love Falafel–like can’t get enough! My grandma always made her authentic falafel mix and stored it in the freezer. It’s so convenient and you just de3frost and fry whenever you crave some. I share her tips on how to prepare, store and fry Falafel so make sure to read that post!
I then shared my Best Falafel Sandwich or Falafel wrap which is one of the recipes that went viral and is a reader favorite! The Best Falafel Sandwich is all dressed up with falafel sauce, toppings and wrapped into a crazy delicious vegetarian sandwich!
So naturally, we needed to make another delicious Falafel recipe variation, and here it is!
Why Falafel Bowl
I can’t really say this Falafel Bowl is a recipe, because it’s simply a bowl of goodness gathered up to make a recipe! While I can’t urge you enough to make my grandma’s Falafel recipe, you can definitely make it using store bought falafel for sure!

You’ll find the fixings I use here to be staple ingredients at many recipes and they’re absolutely worth making!

- Feta Cheese
- Tomatoes
- Cucumbers

How to Make Falafel Bowl/ Falafel Salad
This is my grandma’s homemade falafel mix — a serious chickpea, onions, herb and spice beauty! I can’t urge you enough to try it at least once and I assure you, you’ll be hooked! Plus, you’ll have plenty of mix in the freezer to fry up when you crave some delicious Falafel!
Now you’ll fry the falafel into a nice golden brown color. You can coat the falafel in sesame if you’d like as I’ve done below. While it’s not a must and you probably haven’t seen that before, it’s how my grandma made it 🙂
Seriously nothing can beat it! Now to assemble the Falafel Bowl of Falafel Salad if you’d like to call it. I love using pretty much the same ingredients as my ever so popular Best Falafel Sandwich. The only difference is the lettuce. Since this is more of a salad, I start off by adding the lettuce to the bowl.
And now pile up your fresh veggies –cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, onions, radishes and the falafel.
I add the hummus in a small separate bowl.
And the same with my Tabouleh or Tabouli salad–which is ANOTHER viral recipe and uses a special trick to making tabouleh in a breeze if you’re not a fast chopper!!
The two final items I place in separate containers are my grandpas Fried Eggplant Salad and my crowd pleasing Tahini Sauce which is another Pinterest viral recipe! While this post is about Falafel, my grandpa’s Fried Eggplant Salad is a recipe that I get asked for time after time! And the Tahini Sauce too!
Once you’ve assembled the falafel bowl, it’s time to add some bread. It’s completely optional and you can skip it is you want to make this falafel salad a low carb option. You can also use some crispy Pita Chips for this recipe–it would be SO GOOD!
I used here some Greek flat pita bread. At that point, your dish is ready to enjoy! SO YUM!!

Falafel Salad Tips
- Use quality store bought Falafel, or even better, make my grandma’s Falafel recipe.
- Always fry the falafel right before eating as it tastes so much better that way.
- Make your fixings ahead of time–they’re all fridge friendly.
- My favorite fixings include: Tabouleh or Tabouli Salad, Tahini Sauce, Grandpa’s Fried Eggplant Salad and the Ultimate Hummus Dip.
- Use any veggies you have on hand–try to include lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. Radishes, feta and olives are a plus 🙂
- Make this recipe low carb by skipping the bread.
- Use a huge platter and serve this for entertaining for brunch or dinner.

I can’t stress enough to make this –serve falafel with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, feta, radishes and some quality bread. Then dress it up with Tahini Sauce and Tabouleh Salad. Basically the same way you would make Falafel Sandwich.

Do you eat falafel hot or cold?
When making my Falafel Sandwich, I definitely prefer the falafel to be hot, however with a salad like today’s recipe, I would enjoy it hot or warm. I’m not a cold falafel advocate for sure! Hot to warm falafel is ideal to get the crispy texture and the perfect taste.

Instructions

Prepare the homemade falafel mix if making it from scratch

Fry the falafel until golden brown.

Prepare the tabouli salad, tahini, eggplant salad and hummus bowls

Start by placing the lettuce at the bottom of the salad plate

Assemble the salad by placing all ingredients into the bowl over the lettuce and finish off with the bread on the side.
