Denizens Will get Into the Ghost Restaurant Activity With Sunday Gravy

A local brewery is having in on the ghost restaurant craze. Like other people searching for more income streams for the duration of the pandemic, Denizens Brewing Co. will get started serving red sauce Italian food items to pair with their signature Large Purple Norm ale this week. Sunday Gravy 1st launched out of Denizens’ Riverdale Park area on Jan. 13 and Silver Spring will commence serving the menu of linguini with meatballs and spinach lasagna for select-up and dine-in on Jan. 27.

Denizens has been hoping to acquire a ghost cafe strategy considering that they turned stylish in April. Sunday Gravy was a purely natural in shape. Government Chef Tom Lozupone is Italian American, as is Denizens co-operator Emily Bruno and a great deal of the management team. “My father’s aspect is Italian and my mother’s aspect is Polish-Italian,” Lozupone says. He says hes up for a new challenge. “COVID-19 has reshaped almost everything, but it is allowed us to do factors we would not commonly have carried out.”

When the main dishes will rotate every other week, there will generally be a dish showcasing the ghost restaurant’s namesake sauce, Sunday gravy. Lozupone isn’t building any of the pastas in household, but the gravy is a labor of really like. “We start out with pork cooked for six several hours in tomato sauce that’s cooked for four hours,” he suggests. “It’s like heading to grandma’s residence and there is a massive pot of sauce on the stove.”

On the opening menu, the Sunday gravy is served over cheese tortellini. Round out a food with sides like garlic bread ($5) and mini cannolis for dessert ($8). Upcoming mains will contain shrimp fra diavolo and hen parm. Lozupone previously cooked at I Ricchi downtown and previous Clyde’s Cafe Group eatery Tomato Palace in Columbia, Maryland.

The chef hopes the comforting food stuff from Sunday Gravy will serve as a warm embrace of sorts for locals. “We want to by some means supply a service, an extension of hospitality that individuals really feel that they are lacking,” he suggests. “It’s allowing for Denizens to show to the group that, ‘Hey, we’re in this article for you!’”

The Sunday Gravy menu is accessible anytime Denizens Brewing Co. is open.
